Research Line

Plasticity of the CNS following metabolic insult occurring at birth; implication for neurodevelopment and psychiatric disorders with delayed onset. The focus is on basal ganglia and limbic pathways investigated with neurochemical, neuropharmacological, histochemical and molecular biology methodologies, in vivo and in vitro.

The laboratory is well funded by national (FONDECYT (1080447; 1030521; 1000626, 11070192; 1095021; 110263; BNIP09-015-F) and international (CONICYT/DAAD No1378-090529; 186-10-2006) grants, and it is inserted in a well established international network, including laboratories in Germany (PJ Gebicke, Mannheim), Sweden (T Hökfelt, Stockholm), Italy (M Morelli, Cagliari), Canada (RA Tasker, Charlottetown, PEI) and Chile (Y Israel, Santiago). MH-M is Associated Editor of several international journals, Including Neurotoxicity Research (Springer), Amino Acids and Proteins (Springer), Journal of Amino Acids.

Senior scientists associated to the lab: Assoc. Professor Paola Morales, PhD, MSci; Assoc. Professor Diego Bustamante, MSci; Mario Rivera, PhD (FONDECYT postdoc).

MH-M coordinates several accredited graduate courses including Advance Course in Clinical & Molecular Pharmacology (12 credits) (August-December), Diploma in Neuropsychopharmacology (12 credits) (August-January).

MH-M has published more than 150 papers cited in PUBMed.
